Wake Up - Sing for the Climate

This song will be used at the Kick-Off Rally per Jessica Aldridge of the Burbank Green Alliance:

1.       We will be singing “Do it Now.” We are hoping that students can learn the song prior or bring a printed copy. (the refrain will be written out on stage)

2.       All youth are being asked to be up front at the rally near the stage for visual and audio effect. They will also be leading the rally.

3.       We are asking people to bring surgical/painters masks for a visual effect (we will have some available)

per Sue Blythe, this was a mass sing-along in Belgium, used by Dave Finnigan with kids and families in school presentations

We need to wake up
We need to wise up
We need to open our eyes

And do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now
We're on a planet
That has a problem
We've got to solve it, get involved
And do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now
Make it greener
Make it cleaner
Make it last, make it fast
and do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now
No point in waiting
Or hesitating
We must get wise, take no more lies
And do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now

The Longest Road - Maxwell von Raven

https://soundcloud.com/maxwell-von-raven/the-longest-road

The wind is a shaking
And my feet are a aching
And I'm tired of taking
The longest road

My courage is weaker
And my days are a bleaker
I'm a weary young seeker
On the longest road

Chorus:
When will it end
Will it end
The longest road
(repeat)

The hill's getting steeper
And where is the keeper
Of my will to go deeper
Down the longest road

I've gotta keep on goin'
'Cause my blood is a flowin'
And I'm hell-bent on knowin'
What's at the end of this road

(Chorus)

My head is a spinnin'
But I'll try to keep on grinnin'
Every day's a new beginning
On the longest road

There's no use in stallin'
'Casue the snow is a fallin'
And the voices are a callin'
Me down the longest road

(Chorus)

When will it end
When will it end
Will it ever end
The longest road

Blue Skies - adapted from Irving Berlin

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGZDwxnjG1g (Willie Nelson singing it)

Blue skies taken from me
Nothin' but brown skies do I see
Blue birds don’t sing no song
Nothin' but dark skies from now on

I never saw the sun shinin' so hot, never saw permafrost starting to rot
Noticing the forests burning by, when you're in fear, you miss their deep sigh
Blue days, will never be gone
Nothin' but dark skies from now on

Blue skies taken from me
Nothin' but brown skies do I see
Blue days, will never be gone
Nothin' but dark skies from now on

Memories of Blue skies laughin' at me
Nothin' but brown skies do I see
Blue days will never be gone
Nothin' but dark skies from now on

A Climate March Song - Gavain U'Prichard

(to the tune of "City of New Orleans")

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfxoM6trtZE

All aboard on the March for Climate Action,
we're headed out from L.A. To D.C.
We won't stand for no more great disruption
to the atmosphere, the heartland, and the sea.

With the Jet Stream, on its broken wings,
we'll cross pipelines, where the devil sings,
to our people who still ain't heard the news:

they've got no plan to ever stop
(at least not one that means a lot),
and it ain't about your right-left point of view.

Good morning, America, how are ya?
Say, don't you know us? We're the Climate March.
We're the rising Climate Coalition,
and we'll be gone some twenty miles when the day is done.

It may be the Arctic Now Forever Melting,
Antarctica is not that far behind.
We were told: you cannot see the planet warming,
but now it's everywhere, if you only read the signs.

It's in the eye of the hurricane,
the giant plumes of methane,
the drought that scours the land down to the bone.

We're marching now from coast to coast,
each one, for what we'll miss most
from this world of wonder, now forever gone.

Good morning, America, how are ya?
Say, don't you know us? We're the Climate March.
We're the rising Climate Coalition,
and we'll be gone some twenty miles when the day is done.

Midnight, the climate's hour upon us,
the dying seas echo this refrain,
bring back a strange and ancient era,
A mirror for the darkness in your veins.

But our march cannot be turned aside,
by corporate greed or angry tide,
we love the world enough to save it now,
and everything that's good and green,
is with us, even sight unseen,
to shine a light where darkness drags us down.

Good night, America, how are ya?
Say, don't you know us? We're the Climate March.
We're the rising Climate Coalition,
and we'll be gone some twenty miles when the day is done.

Traffic Jam - James Taylor

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30smAQOfusY

Chorus:
Damn this traffic jam.
How I hate to be late.
It hurts my motor to go so slow.
Damn this traffic jam,
Time I get home my supper'll be cold.
Damn this traffic jam.

(Spoken:)

Well I left my job about 5 o'clock
It took fifteen minutes go three blocks
Just in time to stand in line
With a freeway looking like a parking lot.

Chorus

(Spoken:)

Now I almost had a heart attack,
Looking in my rear view mirror,
I saw myself the next car back,
Looking in the rear view mirror,
'bout to have a heart attack.
I said,

Chorus

Now when I die I don't want no coffin,
I thought about it all too often.
Just strap me in behind the wheel.
And bury me with my automobile.

Chorus

Damn
(clapping)

Now I used to think that I was cool,
Running around on fossil fuel.
Until I saw what I was doing,
Was driving down the road to ruin.

Climate Crisis Jam - Earthman

Earthman Lanny Smith (Nashville, TN) plans to sing this at concerts along the way - It would be good if everyone knew it and could at least sing the chorus - Maybe some brave souls would want to memorize and perform it.

Spirit - Natures Way

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V0Vu_utUZY

It's nature's way of telling you something's wrong

It's nature's way of telling you in a song

It's nature's way of receiving you

It's nature's way of retrieving you

It's nature's way of telling you

Something's wrong

It's nature's way of telling you, summer breeze

It's nature's way of telling you, dying trees

It's nature's way of receiving you

It's nature's way of retrieving you

It's nature's way of telling you

Something's wrong

It's nature's way, it's nature's way

It's nature's way, it's nature's way

It's nature's way of telling you

Something's wrong

It's nature's way of telling you

In a song, oh-h

It's nature's way of receiving you

It's nature's way

It's nature's way of retrieving you

It's nature's way

It's nature's way of telling you

Something's wrong, something's wrong, something's wrong

Thanks! - Deborah

THE TIME HAS COME

(by Deborah Levoy and Richard Nevle)

Can you hear the storms blowing

Can you see the waters rising

Can you feel your hunger growing

The time has come

Can you see the forests burning

Can you feel your heart aching

While the world just keeps on turning

The time has come

The time has come

I hear our voices rising

all across this land

The time has come

Can you feel the winds they're changing

The time has come to take a stand

Can you see the sun rising

Rising just beyond the river

Can you hear our children calling:

"The time has come"

The time has come

I hear our voices rising

all across this land

The time has come

Can you feel the winds they're changing

The time has come to take a stand
